Arts Programs
At the intersection of medicine and the arts.

Art has had a long, intimate connection with the history of medicine.

Historically, artists assisted doctors by drafting images of the human form, dissections, surgical operations, and other scientific illustrations in order to help physicians better understand human anatomy.

The College of Physicians of Philadelphia seeks to continue that intersection between the arts and scientists through a wide variety of art programming. Our classes and workshops include: Drawing Anatomical Anomalies, an 8-week course where students draw directly from specimens; Exquisite Corpses, an etching class taught in tandem with Second State Press; A Night of Botanical Drawing and Cocktails, a summer event where students draw plants in the Benjamin Rush Medicinal Garden; an Alice in Wonderland stop-motion animation workshop in conjunction with the Mütter’s The Medical Oddities of Alice exhibition; and more!
