Call for Abstracts: 2024 Student Public Health Poster Session

NOTE: The 2024 session took place on May 6, 2024. Submission guidelines for the 2025 session will be posted here in the fall of 2025.

Call for Abstracts

Each year the Section on Public Health & Preventive Medicine has hosted a Student Poster Session that showcases regional public health research by students and their mentors from public health and related disciplines. The event will be held on Monday, May 6th at 5 pm at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, 19 South 22nd Street, Philadelphia, PA.  

Deadline for submission of abstracts to the Section on Public Health and Preventative Medicine (see link below) is March 22nd, 2024. Notification of acceptance will be emailed by early April

Presenters must be a student at one of the Section’s Institutional Membership Organizations: Arcadia University, Community College of Philadelphia, Drexel University, La Salle University, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Pennsylvania, or West Chester University.

Important Dates

  • February 5th, 2024: Call for abstracts open 
  • March 8th, 2024: Deadline to submit abstracts to school contact for institutional review
  • March 22nd, 2024: Deadline for abstract submission to the Section on Public Health & Preventative Medicine
  • Early April 2024: Notification of acceptance 

Steps for Submitting an Abstract

Step 1. Email your completed abstract to your specified school contact by Friday, March 8th, 2024 (see section below). 

Step 2. Modify your abstract based on feedback from your school contact. 

Step 3. Email the Abstract to the Chair of the Poster Session Dr. David Sarwer  () by Friday, March 22nd, 2024.

Guidelines for Abstracts

Abstracts will be reviewed and accepted based on content and adherence to guidelines.

The body of the  abstract (Background through Conclusion sections) should be no more than 250 words and single-spaced.

  • Filename: last name of presenter, first initial, and the word “Abstract” –  e.g. SmithCAbstract.docx  
  • Title: Type abstract title in upper case letters and bold (not included in word count)
  • Authors and affiliations: List authors and affiliations using upper and lower-case letters. Presenter’s name should be underlined and listed first.  ALL ABSTRACTS MUST INCLUDE THE FACULTY MENTOR AS A CO-AUTHOR. Reminder, students must review their abstracts with all co-authors and secure permission from their mentor before the abstract is submitted.
  • Background: Describe why the study or program was undertaken. 
  • Objective: Clearly state the objectives of the study or program. 
  • Design/Methods: Describe the methods of data collection and analysis or the activities developed to address the program objectives. 
  • Results: Present the analysis of the data. What do the data show? If the study or program is still ongoing, present the data currently available. 
  • Conclusion: State in one or two sentences what the study demonstrated or the program accomplished.
